Live like a reindeer family experience

 

Step into our family's daily life on our reindeer farm and experience our authentic Inari Sámi way of living. During this unique all-inclusive experience, you will stay in an ®AuroraHut glass igloo boat located on the shore of our family home. You will become a part of our daily routines, hobbies, and the stunning surrounding nature.

 

Before your holiday, we will meet for about an hour in an online meeting. We will get to know each other and plan the details of your visit based on your wishes. You may participate in our family’s seasonal daily chores and hobbies exactly as much as you like. If you prefer to explore the nearby nature on your own or perhaps just relax in the ®AuroraHut with a good book, that is perfectly fine too. You decide. You can still make these decisions on the spot. We are flexible – and we hope you bring a relaxed and flexible attitude as well. Together, we will surely find the best ways to make your holiday perfect.

 

Reindeer herding is strongly tied to the natural cycle of the seasons and weather conditions, so we cannot always predict with absolute certainty what will be happening in our herding work at any given moment. However, we can promise that during your visit, you will get to experience authentic Inari Sámi-Finnish family life in the heart of the northern wilderness.

Nature, photography, and authentic flavors

 

If nature photography is your thing, we can tailor your visit around it. Let's design your holiday so that you have plenty of interesting subjects to capture. Even the immediate surroundings of our home offer plenty of photographing opportunities. As a beginner photographer, you will receive guidance on the basics of using a DSLR camera, and you can borrow a Canon EOS 600D camera, if you wish.

We will dine together in our family home or casually around a campfire. We will cook together using local ingredients: the menu is simple and pure local food made from local meat, fish, berries, and potatoes grown in our own yard. In the evening, you will receive a breakfast basket so you can prepare breakfast in the privacy of your ®AuroraHut and enjoy a peaceful morning embraced by nature.

 

As a keepsake, you will receive one digital photo of each day staying with us.

 

What is included in the experience?

• Accommodation and transfers: 4 nights in an AuroraHut, transfers from Ivalo Airport (or elsewhere within the Inari-Ivalo area) to our home and back, as well as transport to the excursion destinations during your visit.

• Full board: A daily breakfast basket, at least one warm meal, a light lunch or packed lunch for excursions, and an evening snack.

• Activities: 1–2 tailored activities per day, a guided sauna experience, and a guided tour in Sámi Museum Siida (including entrance tickets and coffee/tea).

• Equipment: Snowshoes in winter, electric bikes during the snow-free season in you use.

• Warm winter gear (overalls/thermal jackets, boots, woolen socks, and gloves) and bathrobes for the duration of your visit.

• The ®AuroraHut amenities include a comfortable 140 cm wide double bed, bed linen, towels, and bathrobes. The ®AuroraHut features a kitchenette with a gas stove, tableware, a kettle, bottled drinking water and sparkling water, instant coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and coffee creamer.

• The ®AuroraHut is equipped with a separating toilet. You are also welcome to use the restroom in our family home during the day.

• Non-toxic and ecological shampoo-soap and conditioner, locally made by the company Ivalonatural. You may take them home with you after your holiday.

• A traditional Finnish lakeside sauna available throughout your entire stay.

• A campfire site on the shore at your disposal.

• One digital photo from each day of your stay, delivered to your email.

 

Good to know

• Duration and availability: The program is a 4-night package and is available for booking 1–2 times a month from August to May.

• Customization: You can also book additional nights (includes a breakfast basket).

• Sustainability: We kindly ask you to help protect our fragile nature by using the Ivalonatural washing products provided by us instead of your own.

• Please note: If you choose not to participate in cooking together, the amount of guided activities will be slightly less.

• Activities vary slightly each month of the year, as the seasons are very distinct.

• Our family's reindeer graze freely, so there are no reindeer in enclosures in our yard except in special circumstances. However, free-roaming reindeer may wander through the yard at any time of the year. You may also encounter birds and other wild animals around our home.
